Vocal Music
Course Description: AMV  (9-12)
Students acquire an understanding of music by learning to sing and developing their singing technique. A wide variety of choral repertoire is studied along with vocalizing and technical studies. Good singing tone and personal musical emphasis are emphasized. Students also learn proper vocal technique and how the human body produces sound. The rudiments of music theory are examined in relation to studies. All students participate in a co-curricular ensemble as part of course requirements.
Teacher: Laura Houghton
CONCERT CHOIR - 1st AND 2nd RANKINGS AT KIWANIS
Woburn's Concert Choir has consistently received high standings in the Kiwanis Music Competition and is well recognized for their skill. It is composed of students in the Vocal program, other Music students, and selected individuals by audition, and is led by Laura Houghton. In 2002, the Choir was invited to participate in a performance of Carmina Burana (Orff) organized by the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, under the direction of Prof. Doreen Rao.
CHAMBER CHOIR
Another facet of the Vocal program is the Chamber Choir, which performs works of a more intimate nature without a director. Its members are talented students of the Vocal program.
