Elections were held on Tuesday at lunch for next year's Music Council.
Here are the results:
| President: | Eva Chan |
| Vice-President: | Louis Varahidis |
| Secretary: | Tim Mark |
| Sr. Treasurer: | James Rosselet |
| Jr. Treasurer: | Melissa Pratt |
| Events and Media: | Michii Maniwa |
Reached for comment, Mrs Houghton was happy with the results. "It's a fabulous team," she said. "There are no weak links."
President-elect Eva Chan has been a dedicated, exceptionally hard-working member of the Music Council since arriving at Woburn in grade 9, but in her election speech credited the beginning of her experience to "a bus ride in grade 8". She will attend OELC, the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre, this summer as she prepares to lead a vigorous group.
Louis Varahidis, incoming vice-president, has represented the Council in various events and won the OBA musical leadership award for the Wind Ensemble. Louis attended OELC in June 2005 and has had significant roles in the planning of major Music Council events.
Tim Mark has been studying at Woburn for two years now, and has held the post of grade 10 representative since September. A talented musician who is well motivated, he is looking forward to coordinating events and organizing the Council.
James Rosselet has been involved with the music council since he first entered grade 9 as Concert Band representative. More recently, he held the Events and Media position and is currently putting much effort into improving this website. Appointed to the position of Senior Treasurer, James now holds a lot of responsibility in managing the department's finances.
Michii Maniwa entered the department in grade 9 beginner band, and has flourished ever since. Now principal trumpet of the Wind Ensemble, Michii has continued to be very involved with the department, most recently as the Senior Vocal Representative.
The position of Assistant Treasurer is appointed and the successful candidate will be announced shortly.
Outgoing President Christopher Langan thanked all who stood for election. The number of representatives, especially from the junior grades, who aspired to an executive position was particularly satisfying as it demonstrated the interest and loyalty of this year's Council members.
