Year after year, this ever so cold yet wonderful season always gets the hustle and bustle of us. The holiday stress piles up after hunting throughout the crowded malls just to find that perfect gift for that special someone. Sure the payoff is big to see their expression, but everyone needs some way of relaxing their demands and what better way than Woburn Music’s annual Holiday Harmony’s Concert.
For the past couple of weeks, or I should say months, the many students were introduced to new music and countless hours of rehearsals after school. As the date grew closer to the Holiday Harmonies concert, excitement and anticipation filled the music department, as this was a tradition that always was a smashing success.
At around 6:45pm the doors opened while the instruments and voices were all warming up in the background. At 7 o’clock, Mrs. Ferguson took the stage and welcomed everyone. Now it was time for the Monday Band to start the 2007 concert. The band played three amazing songs and Mr. Farrow conducted all of them. Next up was the Madrigal Choir, Woburn’s most prestigious vocalists. They sang two beautiful melodies under Ms. Houghton’s direction. The last act before the intermission was both the Sr. Jazz Band and the Jazz Combo. The audience was either tapping their feet or dancing to the sounds in their seats. It was a real fantastic first half.
During the intermission the Thursday Band was nervously warming up. This would be the first performance for the grade nine bands. However, when they finally took to the stage they lost their anxiety and played like professionals. The Concert Choir soon followed, singing three soothing songs. Next up was the Chamber Choir. They sang a lovely Christmas Celebration harmony. The final performance of the night was left for Woburn’s senior band – The Wind Ensemble. They played three repertories, with both Mr. Farrow and Mrs. Houghton directing. The ensemble ended the concert on a very high note.
A big thank you goes out to all the students, parents, teachers and friends who came out and supported the Woburn Music Department. Thank you for your generous donations and attending the concert. Also, thank you to the music students who gave up their personal time to practise. Your interest in music keeps this department going and just makes the concerts better every year. Lastly, a huge thank you goes out to Ms. Houghton and Mr. Farrow for instructing us on how to improve. Once again thank you for everybody’s support and we hope to see another great turn out for the spring concert.
