What is the first word that comes to mind in response to Nessum Dorma? Pavarotti of course! Pavarotti fans around the world mourned the loss of the legendary tenor last September to pancreatic cancer.
This past weekend in the ancient city of Petra, Jordan, a ton of stars came together to throw a benefit concert commemorating the one year anniversary of Pavarotti's death, as well as the celebration of what would be his 73rd birthday. To name a few of the performers there were Andrea Boccelli, Sting, José Carreras, and Plácido Domingo. The venue used the face of a very old temple imbedded into what looked to be rock on the inside of a canyon as the stage with chair modestly set up in front of it. The sight was breathtaking and words just cannot do it
justice.
A few highlights were "Caruso" performed as a duet by Laura Pausini and Jovanotti, "Vivere" a duet with Pausini again and Andrea Boccelli and the night finished with a big projection of Pavarotti singing Nessum Dorma. Tickets for the night were reportedly just under $10,000 US per person and went towards the UN, specifically to various projects in Afghanistan. Overall the tribute was deemed a success, and there are rumours that this tribute was just the first of many to come.
