William is a Gr. 11 student here at Woburn and has been a part of our music program for the past two years as a guitar student. William first started playing the guitar during the summer of 2007, and quickly developed a passion for strumming away the hours. He started taking private lessons, and continues to take them to develop his skills. It was quickly realized in William’s class that he was a strong musician and many of his classmates went to him for help with their skills, knowing he was a friendly person who would help them without being overly critical. At the beginning of this year, the music teacher at Henry Hudson S.P.S approached Mrs. Houghton, asking her if there would be any student at Woburn willing to lead a group of 10-15 students interested in playing guitar. Of course William was the person who came to her mind. Mrs. Houghton approached William, who readily agreed to the chance to lead the group. So, now William goes to Hudson once a week from 3:15-4:30 to help the students there interested in playing guitar. When asked what he thought about his new position as a leader William said: “I really, really love it! It’s beneficial to me because I get extra practice with the guitar, and I’m also doing what I love. I also think that I can expose the people in the group to a wide variety of music, from classical to heavy metal.” Keep up the great work William!
