At Woburn, there is the tradition of the annual Feeder School Tour. The Jazz Band and all the choirs (Concert, Madrigal, & Chamber) go to several elementary/middle schools and perform for future Woburn students. These schools are those that provide us with most of Woburn’s population.

This year on December 4th, the Feeder School Trip took place. Everyone arrived to school dressed neatly in their uniforms, and we departed immediately after the 8:45 morning bell. It was a beautifully sunny day, perfect for this musical excursion. The first school was Henry Hudson, followed by J.S. Woodsworth, with Churchill Heights last. The Madrigal choir performed a piece they had only received about two rehearsals ago, called “Come Colours Rise”. The elementary students really enjoyed the brilliant songs by the Jazz Band, and cheered loudly after solos and duets.

At Hudson, we had lots of time to prepare for our performance, however once we had reached the afternoon, all the teachers and performers rushed to stick to the schedule. Everyone helped the Jazz Band unload equipment, and thanks to that great teamwork, we were only off schedule by five minutes. The choirs and Jazz Band were given free pizza back at Woburn for lunch, provided by your friendly neighbourhood Music Council.

The Feeder School Tour gives elementary students a chance to see what their future musical career in high school will be like. They leave with ambitions and hopes to one day return to their elementary school and be the performers instead of the audience. Many performers were delighted to visit their previous school, and greet their favourite old teachers.
