On April 8, students of Woburn Music had the opportunity to see one of Toronto’s finest Broadway shows, Jersey Boys.
Set in 1950’s America, this exciting show displays the true story about the rise and fall of famous singing quartet The Four Seasons. The story starts with one of the founders of the group, Tommy, telling his side of how their life and career started. This explanation soon erupts into a mesmerizing performance of song and dance, and follows the boys’ journey from rags to riches, with each member having a chance to tell their own story. As the headline says, “You ask four guys, you get four different answers”.
With a fantastic show, also comes fantastic music. I found myself and others around me dancing in their seats to such smash hits like Sherry, Walk Like a Man, December, 1963 (Oh What a Night), Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You, and many more. You may ask yourself, “Can a Broadway show justify these amazing original songs?” The answer simply is Yes.
Even with great music, it wouldn’t sound half as good if there weren’t amazing cast members to perform them. The cast gave 100% throughout the whole show, and it was amazing to see the main characters end with the same amount of energy they began with. From start to finish, the cast members truly had a difficult work out, physically and vocally. But in the end, for them it all becomes worth it when they perform a flawless show, and are able to see all of the bright smiling faces in the audience.
It was evident that the Woburn Music students enjoyed the show because each time I looked at someone’s face; they had a bright smile and words of song came from their mouths. I personally enjoyed the show immensely, and would not hesitate to see it again, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good show to see!
