Senior Jazz Performs at Knob Hill
April 27, 2009 11:28 PM
The Woburn Sr. Jazz Band gave an exciting performance on Thursday, April 27th to an audience at Knob Hill United Church. Friends and family attended, as well as members of the community who had never heard a Woburn ensemble perform. The Jazz Band was invited to play at Knob Hill thanks to a previous, similar event at St. Dunstan’s last year. Proceeds for the paid concert were split between Knob Hill and the Jazz Band.
The band met at the church at 6:30PM, leaving plenty of time to set up and warm up for the start time of 7:30. The concert itself consisted of old favourites Swingin’ Shepherd Blues and Birdland, as well as a mixture of Latin, funk, blues, and swing. Tricky solos were tackled by senior members of the band. The list was played through without an intermission, but by the end, the band still had enough energy to play through three-quarters of the encore piece Second Line.
After mingling over cookies and coffee following the performance, the set was loaded into Mr.Farrow’s van and another successful Sr. Jazz Band gig was over.
