On Saturday, May 2, Woburn’s Madrigal Choir performed John Rutter’s “Gloria” in the Sing Sea to Sea concert. They sung with the Amadeus Choir, True North Brass, and students from Cardinal Carter Academy, and Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School at the beautiful Yorkminster Park Baptist Church.

The Madrigal Choir practiced a lot for this concert to be a success for them. On Tuesday, April 28, they had their first rehearsal with all the choirs led by their conductor, Lydia Adams, and with their accompanist, Shawn Grenke. On the day of the concert, Woburn’s Madrigal Choir, and the other choirs had an hour to fix and polish things up with True North Brass.

After their rehearsal, the Madrigal Choir split up in groups to eat out and relax for 2 hours. Personally if you’re ever in that area, I recommend going to the St. Clair Ichiban’s Sushi House, where the service and food add up to a great meal there, plus a couple of photos to remember the restaurant itself.

During the concert, many songs were sung such as “Magnificat” by Jonathan Willcocks, and “Psalm 100” by Heinrich Schütz. A theme and variations on “My Grandfather’s Clock” arranged by Scott Irvine was played with euphonium soloist, Curtis Metcalf, who proved that violin players aren’t the only ones that can play many notes at one time.

Even if they weren’t recognized in the program, they’ll still be remembered for their glorious performance that night. Special thanks go to Mrs. Houghton for setting up school bus rides to the rehearsal and concert and for helping the Madrigal Choir to prepare for this special occasion.
