On Wednesday, May 13th, Woburn CI hosted feeder school Churchill Height’s Music Spring Night. The action began that night when the concert commenced at 7 pm.

Instruments were rumbling as students warmed up nervously in room 102. The anticipation for the night was intensely felt, as so many students were dressed impeccably and ready to roll at 6 pm, a full hour before the scheduled concert. The programme consisted of Churchill’s Senior Band, Jazz Stage Band, Intermediate Choir plus some solo performances by students. Parents and guests filled into the auditorium at about 7 pm.

The Senior Band performed first, followed by the Choir and Stage Band. Churchill Heights had a great sound and their bands all sounded polished and put together. Some highlights from the evening included Voyage Through the Night, a fast-paced and exciting piece beginning with an orchestral bell solo. The Intermediate Choir also sang The Lion Sleeps Tonight, a piece accompanied by steady percussion and guitars. The sound was very exotic and the piece also featured two soloists.

After the intermission, the Stage Band played a mambo piece called Adelieland, a lively song featuring a drum solo. Another highlight was a duet by student performers on guitar and piano. The two students played Kiss the Rain, a beautiful piano piece transformed by them into a lilting and slightly exotic electric guitar solo.

Overall, the night was enjoyable for the Churchill Heights performers and guests. I know I appreciated their performances and Woburn is now looking forward to seeing some of these talented feeder school students next year.

Also upcoming next week is the annual Music Banquet, a semi-formal dance and dinner to look forward to. Tickets are currently being sold outside the Music Office until Wednesday, so pick them up for a night of fun.
