As the year 2009 comes to a close, the students of Woburn’s music department came together to celebrate the annual Music Banquet on May 22. For some, high school was only just beginning and for others, it was finally at an end. But, every Woburn Music student who has ever stepped foot into Flipper’s Fish House on the day of the Music Banquet has related to one another through the music that they made together, and this has built long-lasting and unforgettable relationships.

The evening started at 6:30 PM with the common affairs. There was a delectable palate of foods to munch on, which included chicken, mixed vegetables, rice, potatoes, pasta and bread, followed by various types of pastries to have for dessert. Later, through the expertise of Melissa and Vatsal (our Music Council President and Vice-President respectively), we seamlessly transitioned into the presentation of awards, speeches, gifts and the ever hilarious Jeanie awards, such as those involving Safwan’s sensuous hip movements and Anthony’s little love-in with Mr. Farrow’s foot.

Finally, the night proceeded towards the end with a vigorous and high-energy dance. Mr. Farrow showed us his fabulous Irish antics, and Mr. Hulme wowed everyone with his intense dance moves to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”. Without a doubt, the night had been successfully and appropriately ended with music, thanks to the help of DJ John.

For many students, this was the final music banquet that they would ever attend as students of Woburn Music and was therefore a bittersweet experience. Just as Melissa put it so aptly during her speech, the Woburn Music Department was a home away from home and a second family. Many students have been brought together due to the love for an art and have built relationships that will be remembered for a lifetime. A tip of the hat to Mr. Farrow and Mrs. Houghton for being spectacular teachers and amazing friends. You will be missed!
