Year after year, the Woburn Wind Ensemble toils endlessly, perfecting pieces for seasonal concerts and band festivals. But this year, they get the chance to channel all that hard work into a very worthy cause. On Friday November 20th, 2009 beginning at 7:30 PM, Woburn gets the chance to not only host, but be a part of a very special event.

Called “Students Helping Students”, it is a concert featuring five of the very best high school concert bands Toronto has to offer; those bands being from Markham District High School, Marksville Senior Secondary, Pierre Elliot Trudeau High School , Unionville High School and of course, Woburn Collegiate Institute. However, this is no ordinary concert. Richard Saucedo, the composer of the pieces the bands will be performing, will personally attend to conduct a few of his works as well as complete workshops with each of the performing ensembles prior to the event. In addition, a portion of ticket sales go to Participation House, a place for adults with physical disabilities as well as to the Markham Adult Education Program. Well-known gardening expert Mark Cullen is hosting and Lieutenant Governor of Ontario David C. Onley will also be in attendance.

Good music and good company? “Students Helping Students” is guaranteed to be a night to remember! So come out and support Woburn Music and the Woburn Wind Ensemble! Tickets are $15 per person or $12 per person for a group of ten or more.
