Richard L. Saucedo

A composer, an instructor, an adjudicator and so much more, Mr. Richard L. Saucedo is truly one of the great musicians of our time. He has conducted bands, directed workshops and led his own school in several different states across the country, and soon he will be coming to Woburn to perform with our very own Wind Ensemble. But who exactly is Mr. Saucedo?

Mr. Saucedo went to Indiana University and finished his Master’s degree at Butler University in Indianapolis. He has two kids, a daughter named Carmen who studies voice and a son who was just born in 2006. He also loves to fly, and is a certified private pilot.

Mr. Saucedo is currently the Director of Bands and Department Chairman at Carmel High School in Indiana. This school specializes in the performing arts, and has won numerous band awards under Mr. Saucedo. The Wind Symphony at Carmel has performed nationally three times, and they were the Indiana State Champion Concert Band in 1999. The Carmel Jazz ensemble has also won several awards in the Midwest. The Marching Band as well been named the Class A State Champion 3 times under Mr. Saucedo. This school is one of the strongest musical schools in the country, consisting of 400 instrumentalists in 5 bands, 4 jazz ensembles, a 200 member marching band, a 100 member pep band, a winter colour guard and other music classes such as theory and technology. Appropriately, Mr. Saucedo was given Indiana’s “Bandmaster of the Year” award in 1998-1999.

Mr. Saucedo isn’t just an amazing conductor, but he is also a prolific composer. He has written music for marching bands, concert bands and choral works. His composition “Windsprints” was one of the most played songs by high schools and universities in 2005. Mr. Saucedo has received commissions from all parts of the US. He has written music for middle school, high school and university bands, and will continue to do this in the future. In addition, Mr. Saucedo also has DVD’s that are on sale as well. His first DVD, Dynamic Music, was made on rehearsing the wind section of a marching band, and was published by Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation. He is currently writing with the Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation.

Mr. Saucedo has travelled all across the US, either as a guest adjudicator, conductor, clinician and many more. During the 2008-2009 year, he will travel to over 15 different states, as well as to Toronto. He has been a clinician for: Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Arkansas Bandmasters Association, the Colorado Music Educators Association, the California Music Educators Association and the Indiana Music Educators Association. In addition to all his other work, he has been a consultant for the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in Illinois, a group that won the DCI World Championships 5 times using Mr. Saucedo’s music between 2000 and 2006.

Mr. Saucedo is truly a musical genius, and he has the accolades to prove it. He has conducted bands to the top of the country, and he has composed pieces that are played in almost every high school and university. His former students have nothing but praise for Mr. Saucedo, talking about his intelligence in the musical field, his ability to listen to others, the love the kids have for his compositions and how he was always their favourite teacher. Mr. Saucedo is truly an amazing composer, conductor, clinician, and above all, an amazing person.
