Holiday Harmonies

Woburn’s music program is filled with many talented and dedicated musicians, and yet again they have made us proud. On Thursday December 10th 2009 all of Woburn’s musical ensembles got together to give their family and friends a taste of the holiday cheer. The chamber choir, concert choir, jazz band, madrigal choir, Monday band, Thursday band, and wind ensemble each had outstanding performances, and the music council made sure that everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.
This was my first time performing at a Woburn concert, and also being on music council allowed me to see how amazing both the performers and the leaders of this school were. All of the performers worked hard to learn 2-3 compositions to perfection, and were able to perform in a very professional manner. The audience enjoyed the concert very well but, what most people don’t know is the vast amount of preparation that was happening at the same time. During a performance other groups were warming up, while the up coming ensemble waited behind stage for their turn to entertain. Everyone had their responsibilities well under hand and carried them out very efficiently.
The Holiday Harmonies Concert was enjoyed by all audiences. Since I had not had a chance to view all of the performances, I had asked some of my fellow class mates, friends and performers about how they felt. A fellow class mate Hiral Patel, a member of both Monday and Thursday band said that “the jazz band was awesome, especially the saxophone and trombone solos!” Aaron Lo a member of Monday band, said, “It felt heart warming, I enjoyed the music very much, and the joy it brought to me.” Another performer Haley MacMillan's comments were “ I thought we did a decent job. We rocked the crowd, and we put on a pretty good show, we did a good job.” Finally Geetha Selvam’s thoughts were “I loved the festive atmosphere, and the whole night was very fun”
Overall I think that everyone who was a part of making this concert happen did an exceptional job. The Woburn music department, students, and council worked hand in hand to make the concert happen, and it really paid off. Every aspect of the Holiday Harmonies was accomplished with profound excellence, and it couldn’t have been better.
