We all know Jacob Plachta for his exemplary musical talent in the halls of Woburn Music, but Jacob is a music star outside of school as well. In the past year alone, he has built up quite a resume. In November, he was a part of the Ontario Provincial Honour Band, an audition-only band for high-school students, and spent a week learning and performing pieces. More recently, he was a member of the National Youth Band of Canada, a similar band for youth up to age 21. For this band, he was sent to British Columbia for a week. His musicianship is already emerging as a profession, as he recently performed as a soloist in the Hannaford Youth Band for a $300 prize.

Jacob has been an essential part of Woburn Music. He was the accompanist for both madrigal and chamber choirs, and jumped in last-minute to learn a piece for concert choir. He was a strong part of the Jazz band and performed sweeping solos throughout the year, and of course his work in Wind Ensemble resulted in the immensely successful concerto ‘Morceau Symphonique’ and the receipt of the OBA award.

Next year he plans to study trombone performance at the University of Toronto to further pursue his musical career.
