On Wednesday, May 25th, Churchill Heights Junior Public School had their annual Spring Arts Night at Woburn CI. This was an opportunity for the students to showcase their work throughout the year, in both music and visual arts.

Being a feeder school for Woburn, this was a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience what playing at Woburn is like. Many members of this year’s graduating class will be coming to Woburn in September, so this was an opportunity for them to familiarize themselves with their future school, and hopefully, music program.

I helped out at Churchill’s winter concert as well, so it was interesting to see how much they’ve improved throughout the year. I enjoyed listening to the various performances by ensembles such as the Senior Band and Stage Band, as well as duets and solos that were performed by some very brave and talented students. Churchill has a very strong music program, which is evident in the execution and difficulty of the pieces they played in relation to most elementary school bands. There was also a large group of tiny, adorable kindergarteners, dressed in bright colours and singing about ducks in anticipation for their trip to the zoo. In the foyer, many forms of artwork created by the students were on display, such as watercolour paintings done by the first-graders.

Overall, it was a tiring but enjoyable night, and I hope to see many of these students join Woburn Music next year.
